A celebration of craftsmanship, storytelling, and Italian excellence in label design

I'm incredibly excited (and a little emotional!) to share that Giada Tamborrino Studio has been selected as one of the 8 finalists in the Insuperlabel 2025 contest — a competition dedicated to luxury label design and cutting-edge print innovation.

This year’s edition focuses on a truly inspiring brief: designing the label for a babà in vasocottura, a traditional Italian sponge cake slow-baked and preserved in glass. The master behind it? Luca Scarcella, a celebrated baker from Turin with over 30 years of experience in artisanal food.

A label that tells a story before words do

"For this project, I wanted to create more than just an aesthetic surface. I wanted a label that felt timeless, tactile, and alive with intention."

Rooted in the values of craftsmanship, heritage, and emotional connection, the design features:

  • A custom die-cut window revealing the dessert inside — like a glimpse into the baking ritual

  • Textured Fedrigoni paper for a premium, sensory feel

  • Foil and embossing details in gold and terracotta, carefully balanced for elegance

  • A playful illustrated character inspired by the Scarcella brand, which changes position across labels thanks to HP Mosaic variable data technology

Every detail nods to the slow beauty of fermentation, the resistance of tradition, and the richness of a brand deeply connected to Italian food culture.

About the contest

Insuperlabel is organized by Auroflex, in collaboration with HP Indigo, Fedrigoni Self-Adhesives, and Luxoro. It celebrates label design as a fusion of creativity and production mastery — bringing together the best of material science, storytelling, and printing finishes.

As part of the final phase, my label will soon be printed at Auroflex’s production site in Sicily, using:

  • Digital offset printing

  • Self-adhesive Fedrigoni paper

  • Hot foil finishing provided by Luxoro (from the Extra!Ordinari collection)

Why this means so much

This milestone means more than just recognition — it reflects my long-standing passion for intentional design that connects brands and consumers through meaningful visual experiences.

It also aligns perfectly with my studio's mission: to elevate eco-conscious brands with high-end, emotionally intelligent packaging that leaves a lasting impression.

What’s next?

Soon, I’ll be flying to Sicily to oversee the printing process and learn more from the talented team at Auroflex, and I can’t wait to hold the label in my hands. I'll be sharing behind-the-scenes moments on Instagram, so stay tuned for updates and glimpses of what’s to come.

Thank you to the incredible team behind Insuperlabel, to Luca Scarcella, all the partners, and to everyone who believes in the power of thoughtful design. 💛
